Musical Background
I picked up bass at age eleven, drawn to the instrument by bands like Green Day and Blink-182. Shortly my passion and curiosity for music grew as I was exposed to the players who revolutionized the instrument, along with genres like jazz, funk, Motown, classic rock, Latin music, and more. This eventually led me to Berklee College of Music in Boston, where I had the opportunity to study with phenomenal bassists like Esperanza Spalding and Danny Morris. This experience continues to shape my teaching today as I encourage students to explore music with curiosity, build a strong technical foundation, and develop their own voice as musicians.

Philosophy
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to learning an instrument.
I believe the most effective music education strikes a balance between making music enjoyable and building strong fundamentals, while keeping each student's goals, situation, and unique learning style at the center of the learning process. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to learning an instrument, and one of my strengths as a teacher is adapting to meet the needs of each individual student.
The ultimate goal of Spencer Andrews Electric Bass is to give students the skills and confidence to become lifelong learners on the bass so they feel empowered to pursue whatever musical path inspires them — whether that's playing in a band, writing songs, performing professionally, or simply enjoying music for years to come.
